Shramika Vikasa Kendram

SVK’s core focus is on children, with special emphasis on girl children. We strive to protect the best interests of children through ensuring holistic rights to children.

Shramika Vikasa Kendram is a non-profit organization established in the year 1992 in Nagarkurnool District, Telangana. As part of a UNDP-sponsored intervention, SVK formed women’s groups, facilitated thrift and credit activities, and worked on liberating girl children working in cotton fields. Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the village level were federated into a Village Organization [VO] at the Panchayat level. Efforts culminated in the formation of Mandal Shramika Mahila Samakhya [MSMS] a representative body of all the SHGs in Peddakothapally Mandal.

Psycho-Social Support/Counselling

Sakhi OSC has a skilled Counselor to support the women affected by violence and instill confidence among them through proper counseling. 452 affected women were supported through Psycho-social counseling during this year 2023.

Emergency Response and Rescue Services

Sakhi undertakes emergency rescue operations with the support of local police once it receives a call for rescue and protection from any woman affected by violence through the 181 Women Helpline, Police Dial 100, or any other means. 57 women were rescued from locations of violence through rescue operations during April 2022 – March 2023.

Childline 1098

Childline 1098 is an essential service toll-free helpline for children facing abuse, exploitation, or any other kind of crisis. Operated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in partnership with NGOs, it provides counseling, referral services, and help in connecting support services in the respective areas. Shramika Vikasa Kendram is the nodal agency for the implementation of the program in Wanaparthy district since 2019.

Child Rights Protection

Protection of Child Rights through Community Empowerment:
Child Rights Protection through Community Empowerment is one of the major projects implemented by us with the support of CRY / Child Rights. The Project aims at preventing child marriage and child trafficking and ensuring quality secondary education and health and nutrition for boys

Dignified engagement and Empowerment Program for Adolescents (DEEPA)

The organization joined hands with UNICEF to launch an intervention under the banner of DEEPAM (Dignified Engagement and Empowerment Program for Adolescents in Mahabubnagar district) in 14 Mandals of the newly carved Wanaparthy district from February 2017 onwards with three objectives, namely:

Adolescents, as individuals or groups, have agency and resources to make purposive-transformative choices, maximize opportunities and make their voices heard.
Families and communities support adolescents to avail of services and resources that are essential for their growth and development.
Relevant sectors contribute to the establishment and promotion of adolescent programs and policies and ensure quality implementation.

DEEPA was a comprehensive intervention with a rights-centric approach and had 3 basic approaches – educating adolescents on their rights, empowering adolescents by federating them, and convergence with government departments.

Girls Advocacy Alliance-TDH Netherlands

The Girls Advocacy Alliance focuses on combating violence against girls and young women and increasing their economic participation in the Mahbubnagar district. Violence and economic exclusion are closely linked. Girls massively drop out of secondary and vocational education, especially due to child marriage, sexual violence, trafficking, and the worst forms of child labor. Their chance of ever getting a 'decent' job is minimal. And vice-versa; without income and independence, they are more vulnerable to violence.

The Girls Advocacy Alliance is addressing gender-based violence and economic exclusion of girls and young women in the following ways:
Capacity building of civil society organizations, specifically organizations focusing on young women, to advocate and sensitize government officials, the corporate sector as well as the general public.
These civil society organizations conduct advocacy campaigns in their own countries, as well as lobby regional bodies such as the African Union.

Sakhi One Stop Centre

Sakhi One Stop Centre is a program initiated by the Central Government aiming at preventing physical, psychological, emotional, sexual and economic abuse of women within the family, community and workplace. The Programme is being implemented in a technical partnership with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and ShramikaVikasaKendram (SVK) was selected by TISS as a partner NGO to facilitate the implementation of the programme in Nagarkurnool district. Thus Sakhi OSC started functioning in Nagarkurnool on 8th March 2019 in a rented building and was later shifted to a newly constructed own building at the end of 2021.
